Presho Thirft Store to expand

Posted by Lucy

The Presho Thrift Store and the City of Presho completed negations last Friday for a one-year lease on the former city bar building.

Thrift Store board member Lois Comp hopes the expansion of the store will generate more donations, more shoppers and volunteers. According to Comp, the board would like to get moved in as soon as possible.

"We’re excited!" Comp said following her meeting with Presho mayor Mike Sprenger Friday afternoon. "We’re having a painting party Sunday."

Approximately, a dozen volunteers showed up Sunday with paint brushes to apply a first coat of paint to all the interior walls. Another coat of paint will be added before volunteers start moving inventory into the space.

Comp said they will use the room for winter clothing and Christmas decorations.

"We have a lot of new Christmas items for sale," said Comp.

The oversized door between the city bar building and the hallway of the Thrift Store will be opened to allow access to the new shopping area. There will be no outside entrance to the former bar building.

With the additional floor space and storage area, the store will have room for bigger items like furniture.

Comp said they may move other items over to the additional space as they settle into the building.

The Thrift Store, a non-profit 501(3)(c) entity, will pay the city a nominal fee for rent per month to the city but cover all utilities.

Mayor Sprenger said the lease would be year to year at this point.

"Having someone in the building is a positive," Sprenger said.

Thrift Store board members include Comp, Sue Lillebo, Michelle Lintvedt, Alicia Christensen and Teresa Hanson.

The Thrift Store will be open for the Hometown Holiday open house Thursday evening, December 3rd and host Santa.

The store will also hold the annual Kids Shopping Day in the near future. Watch the Herald for details.

The Thrift Store is open Thursdays and Fridays 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm.
