Reita Bechard, 92 of Presho died Friday, February 6 at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre. Visitation was 5-7 pm Monday, February 9 at the United Methodist Church in Presho.

Services were 10:30 am Tuesday, February 10 at the United Methodist Church in Presho with burial at Vivian Cemetery in Vivian.

Reita Bechard was born on July 16, 1911 in Vivian, SD to Hugh and Anna (Rishel) Boal.

She grew up in rural Vivian on the family farm, and graduated from Vivian High School in 1930 then went on to get her teachers certificate from Southern State in Springfield, SD.

She has lived in Eau Claire, WI and Presho, SD. Reita was united in marriage to Alfred Bechard on November 28, 1934 in Vivian, SD.

Reita taught elementary school for three years before she got married, and then took some time off to raise her family, she returned to teaching in 1962 and retired in 1979.

Reita enjoyed reading her Bible and teaching school. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Presho, the Presho Senior Citizens and WSCS.

Reita is survived by two sons Jerry (Lois) Carlson of Webster and Karl (Sharron) Bechard of St. Mary's KS, three daughters Karen (Jim) Gilman of Kennebec, Beth (Charles) Oller of Vivian and Lyn (John) Emmons of Loveland, CO, one brother-in-law Karl (Lois) Kearns, one son-in-law Bill (Kathy) Laufenberg, 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1976, her daughter Jo Ann Laufenberg in 1987, her parents and four sisters, Vera Jackson, Myrna Abel, Marian Kearns and Orale Boal.
